Making Money with your Blog

Making money with your blog is one thing that gets many people’s attention, the main question though is what options do you have for making money with your blog and at what point can you try to make money.

WHEN TO TRY AND MAKE MONEY

Answering the second question, (always a good start). Really i am approaching this question first, because the answer may affect which path you choose to go down. Really it is possible to start at any time to try and make money from your blog, 1 or 1000 visitors it does not matter. However what you need to keep in mind is that just because you are displaying ads on your blog does not mean that you will make money from them.

Firstly you do need a reasonable number of visitor’s, you are not going to make hundreds of dollars if your blog has just 20- 30 visitors a month. Even 1,000 visitor’s a month may not generate hundreds of dollars. While it does very much so depend upon the type of content and the ads that you display, it is not the easiest way to make a fortune. However the more visitor’s that you have the more chance you have of making reasonable money.

SOME OPTIONS FOR MAKING MONEY

PPC Ads – Displaying pay-per-click ads (PPC) is definitely one option to make some money, there are a number of different services out there with different requirements to join them. The most popular being Google Adsense. The payouts vary quite a lot from ad to ad, however for the most part the ads are selected based on the content on the page. This makes a lot of sense if the ads are inline with the content.

Affiliate Programs – Making use of affiliate programs can be a better option then PPC ad’s because there is usually more incentive involved. Additionally the incentive is usually directly related to the value of the sale, where as PPC ads are an arbitrary figure based on what the advertiser wants to pay for someone clicking to see their site. As long as you can integrate your affiliate programs well, they can lead to great revenue, fail to match the product to your topic though and you are likely to see no results hardly (Wedding affiliate on a wedding blog, good choice, Wedding affiliate on a car blog, not so great choice).

Paid posts – Later in your blog when you are generating a lot of visitor’s you may have the opportunities arise to be paid for posting about different products. These may not always pay great, but often you may gain free products, orĀ  little extra income from doing so. The only thing i would say here is do not recommend a product just for the money or because you got it free, recommend a product because you truly believe in it. You will generally gain more respect from your readers this way.

Take your time and you can really do well from your blog, however watch out for the pitfalls of overdoing it, while people are generally ok with seeing ads on your blog, and understand why you need to include them, they will often move on if there is an excessive amount of them all in the way.
